Thailand Part 1

Last Friday we left for Bangkok.  It was a much anticipated trip, though I later realized that I wasn't really prepared.  Since work has been so hectic, I wasn't thinking about the details of the holiday.  I realized this once we arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport.  (sounds like sue-wan-a-pom)  After gathering our luggage and going through customs, we got in a taxi.  It was only then, as I realized that most Thai's do not speak English, that I reflected on how foolish it was to go to a country and not even bother to learn a couple of basic words!  My phone was not working properly, but somehow Keri's husband, Joe was able to give the driver enough information in Thai on the phone to get us to their  building.  Bangkok is massive!  It was so great to be in a vibrant city again.  The sights and smells are a bit overwhelming, but brilliant none the less!  Once we arrived, we hung out at Keri's for a bit, and played with her sweet Sophie.  Sophie is delightful!  She is 7 months old, and one of the happiest, go with the flow babies I have seen.  We took the sky train to one of the huge malls, 8 stories of shopping!  I'm actually over shopping malls, as the ones in Qatar are quite large as well.  We went there so that we could go to the Siam Aquarium.  It's a fabulous aquarium, similar to the one in Gaitlinburg, Tn, but much larger.  The photo above, and the next two are from the balcony off Keri's 42nd floor apartment/flat.  View of Bangkok on all sides.

The above pic in a view straight down, and the one on the right is a side view.
Inside Siam Aquarium.  Those are some massive crabs!
On a glass bottom boat inside the aquarium where you can see fish and sharks swimming directly below the boat.
The feet eating fish.  I don't know what they are called, but I've seen them advertised at spas...they eat the dead skin off your feet.  Sergey liked it.  I thought it hurt!
I got out first, since those little suckers were biting my feet!
Tunnel with sharks, sting-rays, etc. all around.  Similar to the one in Gaitlinburg.

After the aquarium, we were back on the sky train to go to a lovely outdoor restaurant.  After that we went to get massages ($10 for an hour!), and then hung out at a pub for a while, having a drink and chatting.  So nice to be in a place that felt 'western,' full of English speakers.
The sky train is a bit packed....
From the bridge.  Keri and I stayed up chatting, then off to Chaing Mai in the morning.  So glad to see Keri in Bangkok before she moves to Luxembourg in July!
